Hi All,

Here is a great opportunity for you if you are looking for a part time
job!!!

Smart Kids Tutor Job Description (8 positions available)

Smart Kids Tutors work with children aged kindergarten through eighth grade
in the development of basic reading, math, science, and social studies
skills using digital self-taught software. Most of the children served are
performing below their expected academic level. Tutors collaborate with
center faculty to assess the needs of children and to determine how best to
address those needs. Tutors engage in academic activities with selected
children usually one-on-one and occasionally in small groups. To ensure
progress, tutors work with the same children frequently and consistently
(i.e. two or more times per week) in 1-hour tutoring sessions. This
frequency and consistency allows tutors to build a mentoring relationship
with the child which leads to sharing the joy of learning, thus increasing
the child 's motivation to learn.

-- Job Responsibilities:
Consistent, ongoing support is crucial for the children. Tutors commit to
serving with the Smart Kids Tutoring Center for at least one semester, and
are expected to honor their term. Tutors must give two weeks written
notification to the Smart Kids Center before terminating employment.
Unexcused and excessive absences or unsatisfactory performance may be
grounds for dismissal.

-- Training / Reflection / Evaluation:
To carry out the Smart Kids mission of providing quality assistance to
children and to provide college students insight into community needs,
tutors are required to complete the following:

1) An initial digital software training, arranged by Smart Kids, Inc.
2) A general parent enrollment training, arranged by Smart Kids, Inc.
3) One reflection session per semester, administered by Smart Kids, Inc.
5) An end-of-semester program evaluation, administered by Smart Kids, Inc.
*Note: All trainings, reflections and evaluations are paid.

-- Communication:
All tutors must have a phone number and e-mail address and are encouraged to
check it frequently. This allows Smart Kids, Inc. faculty to relay timely
messages such as schedule issues, additional service opportunities,
emergencies, etc.

-- Smart Kids Cooperation:
Tutors should be role models for the children by complying with the
guidelines addressed in the school orientation and training such as school
rules, dress code, safety procedures, etc. Build relationships with
faculty. Ask about what the child is learning in class or how to help them
with a particular skill. Remember that teachers are first and foremost
responsible for the child 's education and that tutors are additional
support.

-- Scheduling:
Tutors must arrange a regular work schedule with the Center faculty which
will not interfere with their coursework. Work-Study tutors may work a
minimum of 4 hours and a maximum of 20 hours per week and must work at least
two days per week. While most time will be spent tutoring, some time will
be for preparation and required tasks.

-- Compensation:
Competitive compensation based on work performance and the completion and
fulfillment of the job description and responsibilities.

-- Language:
Tutors must be able to clearly speak, read, and write in English, however
Mandarin, Cantonese and Spanish is a plus.
