Dear My friends,
Some help is needed from a lovely Chinese guy adopted here in PA.
Posted for Global Connection.
A young boy was adopted by a family in Williamsport. They are having an assessment done to see if he has speech problems, and they need someone (preferably a woman) who is willing to go to Williamsport one day in December to assist with Cantonese translation during his assessment. It would obviously be a huge help to the boy and his family.
Might it be possible that you know of someone, or else could you post the request on your list serve? If the volunteer is allowed to receive compensation (according to their visa), it is available to the person for their services. They would certainly be reimbursed for mileage, in any case.
Here is the mother’s note to me:
“We would need a person for a morning starting at 8:30am or afternoon at 12:30 for about two hours in Williamsport. This appointment would probably be in the first part of December. There would be a couple of developmental professionals on hand and the interpreter would help assess our sons' language abilities. I'm certainly not trying to be picky, but if at all possible, I'd like to work with a female speaker. Evan's caregivers were female and I think he'd respond better with a lady.
The intermediate unit would be able to provide some compensation. If you can find someone, I can connect our local intermediate unit person with him or her.”
